This was a magnificent occasion for RMACB. On Thursday 26th June the college orchestra and band came to the Royal Marines Museum to rehearse with us. We were very impressed by their standard and enthusiasm and it was very clear that our short performance with them at their college in Petersfield on the following Sunday was going to be a huge success.
We were last on that day following a whole afternoon of performances by various music groups by which time it was dark: just right for the finale accompanied by fireworks and much enthusiastic applause.
We played on our own The River Kwai March and, of course, David’s excellent arrangement James Bond 007. Then it was time to be joined by the college’s orchestra and band leading off with Eric Coates’ epic march The Dambusters. Then followed three John Williams’ pieces: The Theme from ‘Superman’, Symphonic Marches and the main theme from Star Wars’. Excellent playing; magnificent fireworks. What a treat. Exhaustion all round following a long and very demanding day on stage!
