(Jan is also the wife of Mick Blandford – one of our most experienced clarinetist’s.)
This could be seen as a case of, “If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em!” – Mick never misses a single rehearsal and Jan has dutifully followed him to every single one!
But in truth Jan is also one of those people that every good organisation needs, in that she takes care of the much needed tea & coffee “boat” – not forgetting the essential fully stocked biscuit barrel!! It’s more than appreciated by all the band members following a good hour’s blow that’s for certain!
On top of this, she has also taken it upon herself to run fortnightly raffles at rehearsals – often supplying some of the prizes herself ! – It worked so well last year, that by the time the Band Social came around, she’d managed to raise over £350! – This was then put behind the bar to assist our more thirsty musicians, including their wives & partners! – A nice touch Jan!
Nothing is ever too much trouble for this good lady. In fact no matter what item you may have a need of, you can guarantee that she will have the solution! Jan even keeps a box that contains such things as plasters, pens, blu tack, needles & threads, scissors and other obscure items that I haven’t thought of! Jans Presidents Award 2012
She is a true willing helper and will often be seen at our gigs, either manning our sales desk, (if we are short), or helping out with programme sales. She’s often lent a hand with our RMCTF bucket collections at the end of a concert and she even does all of the banking for the monies collected!
“A good all round egg” and we think that Mick should be rightly proud of her!
Finally, we should also mention *Alan Flood’s good lady (Flo’) here too. Flo’ also regularly attends rehearsals and acts as a very willing helper to Jan and therefore deserves praise for her efforts too. Thank you from all of us Flo! (*Alan sits on lead trumpet with Jon Yates)
Last weekend, including Fri evening Sat 8.30 to 5pm & Sun 9 to 5 pm. the band recorded their 6th CD at the Berry Theatre. A long and arduous task for all of us, but who was there to provide the much needed refreshments throughout the days? – None other than these wonderful ladies to whom we are extremely indebted. Both were later rewarded with two beautiful bouquets of flowers presented by our leader Dir of Music Dave Cole.
