RMA Concert Band - Sunday 5th March 2017

RMACBOn Sunday 5th March a warm and appreciative audience greeted the Royal Marines Association Concert Band and their guests, the Yeovilton Military Wives Choir to the Octagon Theatre, Yeovil.

A programme offering a varied mix of popular favourites from the classical world as well as stage and screen were contrasted with some delicate interludes. Among these, Major (Retd) Tony

Smallwood programmed Philip Sparke’s Entr’acte fromTheatre Music performed by the whole band and the choir also sung with sensitivity in You’ve Got a Friend and the Dylan classic , Make You Feel My Love with soloist Deborah Ashwell.

For those with a particular affection for audience participation, however, there were also typically plentiful opportunities. Beginning with the choir’s Tipperary Medley, the band soon followed with the traditional Hornpipe, encouraging the audience to keep an ever accelerating beat for the band’s brave soloist, Rodney Preston (violin).

Following Prelude and Sunset, the popular finale included flag and programme waving opportunities in Britannic Salute, bringing both audience and band to their feet. Thank you, Yeovil; as ever, it was a pleasure.
